In an attempt to control costs, University officials say they have been focusing a great deal of attention on more effectively using classrooms. And a presentation at the University's Board of Regents meeting yesterday appears to show that their work is really paying off. Frances Mueller, project manager of the Space Utilization Initiative, gave an update on the steps she and campus leaders have been taking to more efficiently utilize existing space on campus sponsored by general fund revenue.

Although I see this game has evolved into a meaningful one during the last few years, I'm not sure we're quite ready to call it a rivalry. Let's see some smashmouth, back-and-forth games and matchups through the series and we'll re-evaluate. On paper, it seems Penn State is superior in every category — from its typically fierce linebackers to its experienced backfield.  

Brandon Minor is doubtful for Saturday's game because of a shoulder injury that has been bothering him in recent weeks. It figures that even though his ankle injury is finally better, he may not play because of a different injury. I'm sure nothing would keep Minor off the field on Saturday if it was his decision, but Rich Rodriguez explicitly said yesterday that whether or not he plays will be up to the trainers.  

We're one day closer to The Game, and the focus around these parts continues to be on everything but football. Mike Brown, Rich Rodriguez's agent, said Wednesday that Rodriguez met with Michigan president Mary Sue Coleman earlier this week and received another vote of confidence . Coleman told The Wall Street Journal last month she intended to be patient with the building process, but she's declined recent interview requests.  

According to Rich Rodriguez's agent, U-M president Mary Sue Coleman supports Rodriguez "100%." Mike Brown told the Free Press today that the pair met on Monday -- he said he wasn't sure what the meeting was about or how it arose -- and that's what she told Rodriguez. "She said, hey I'm behind you 100%," Brown said.
